Inclusive play encourages children of all abilities to play together

In the last 12 months we have really seen an increase in inclusive play equipment. Inclusive play can be defined as promoting children of all developments and abilities to play together. Inclusive play is not to be confused with products specifically targeted at children with disabilities, inclusive play products are targeted at all children of all abilities. So that all children can play together using the same equipment.

Inclusive play makes children with disabilities feel like they can be independent as our all access playgrounds and sensory panels give them the opportunity to play independently. Inclusive play focusses on three main elements: engagement, integration and inclusion. A group of children of all abilities should be able to go to a playground and play on the equipment together without feeling left out.

Omnitech’s range of inclusive products encompass all three elements of inclusive play. Our sensory panels encourage children to feel the grooves and different textures whilst completing an activity. Two of our most popular sensory panels are the clock panel and the race panel. Both of these panels as shown below have uneven surfaces which promote the feeling of touch as children can slide their fingers across them, feeling the different grooves as well as encouraging them to participate in the activity, weather it be racing their hot air balloon or practicing telling the time. At Omnitech we also have a range of standard units that have been designed to allow wheelchair access. These units are great for any council or school that requires an all access playground.

Inclusive play is about breaking down barriers between children of all abilities, aiming to encourage social interaction amongst the playground. Statistics reveal that out of 1000 children aged between 3-21, 85 will have a disability, these statistics alone should be enough to encourage councils and schools to incorporate inclusive play within their parks and schools. At Omnitech we believe that it is important to encourage inclusive play without our playgrounds so that all children can have the opportunity to play together.
